Uncommon RPG Setting - Underworld

I’m writing this in response to a thread in our forum about uncommon RPG settings.

I’ve always kind of liked the idea of playing in the sunless underbelly of a far off planet. This world would spin extremely slowly around its axis. In fact, the rate at which it spins around the axis directly mirrors the rate at which it rotates around the sun. This causes half of the world to be perpetually bathed in light while the other half is cloaked in darkness.

In this world colonies would grow to thrive on the light side of the planet. They would eventually fence off the dark side and banish thieves, murderers and the scum of society to the other side. It is impossible for the dark side to rebel and regain entry to land capable of harvesting food. Therefore, those trapped in the dark are forced to spend most of their time forging for what little fungus and rugged plants they can find.

The colonies that develop in this world might be especially interesting. Every single person living in the darkness is either personally responsible or directly related to someone who has convicted of horrible acts against society. This would cause the commoner to suffer from paranoia or at least be extremely skeptical of who they trust.

I’m not sure if this world is inspired by the drow or by the Time Machine…but it would make for an interesting setting.
