This game sort of reminds me of ‘Eye of the Beholder’ from the SNES. It is, without a doubt, the best flash based party RPG around. You get to choose any mix of 4 characters comprised of warriors, clerics, mages, rangers and rogues. I prefer 2 clerics, 1 warrior and 1 ranger.

To some degree Monsters’ Den is superior to EotB. The game play is much faster. You can pound through a dungeon level in 5 mins flat if you don’t spend a ton of time managing your inventory. Levels and items are completely random.

If you play RPGs for the story or puzzles then you might want to pass on this one…its a total grinder. Aside from the skills character development isn’t anything special. Each character gets 1 level per floor and 3 points to allocate among 4 attributes. On top of that each character basically has 2 attributes of value. For example you only need to worry about strength and endurance as a warrior and dexterity and endurance as a ranger.

The skills are really what set this game apart from other flash RPGs. Whenever you gain a level you get to add 1 new skill and each character has a max of 6 skill slots. Nothing special about that but the skills themselves are above average. My favorite skill in MD is ‘Hail of Arrows’.
