In the 1750s, London was an open sewer of filth, vice and corruption, its perilous streets run by armed gangs, corrupt Night Watchmen and Thief Takers. But there were two Westminster Magistrates, Henry and John Fielding, who felt it their moral duty to enforce the law. They set about recruiting ‘stout-hearted men’ to assist them in the fight to bring stability to the streets of London and the Bow Street Runners were born.

In the Bow Street Runner game the player becomes one of Fielding’s recruits and must work their way through a series of events in a tough and unruly Covent Garden of the 1750s. Each episode will lead the player to explore different crime scenes, collecting evidence and interviewing characters. The game has a dramatic cinematic effect using a range of digital techniques including 3D sets, dynamic composition and seamlessly integrated live action footage.

Bow Street Runner has all the tension of a contemporary crime series, whilst interlaced with fascinating and eye-opening revelations about the gaudy reality of not-so-polite society in eighteenth century London. Ultimately the result of this high-production game is to immerse the player within the story and educate them about the Bow Street Runners via an exciting soft learning experience.

Bow Street Runner is based on the Channel 4 five-part series City of Vice. The production cast is lead by the accomplished British actor, Julian Glover.
