The New Twisted Metal Trailer
Today the world has seen the debut of a new Twisted Metal debut trailer. Guess what platform it’s on? No, not the PS3. Instead, it’s on the PS2 — which is currently (and very ironically) outselling the PS3. The trailer shows lots and lots of add-on’s to the PSP game TM: Head-On and some features from TM: Black.
Here’s the trailer:
It’s really ironic how these PSP to PS2 ports really sell. As most of you know, the PlayStation 3 has totally messed up backwards compatibility with PS2 games. The initial shipments of the PS3 had PS2 emotion engine chips built in, and then the Cell processor upscaled those old games to HD, making them look incredibly crisp for last gen experiences. But now all PS3’s have no backwards compatibility whatsoever. Very sad, I _really_ wanted to play all of my old PS2 classics in HD. Now when hooking up my PS2 to an HDTV I get horrriiiibbbbbleee pixelation due to a non-upscaled standard definition source (which is the PS2’s composite output).
But on the subject, Twisted Metal is one of those unique experiences that pioneered the PlayStation brand since the original Sony console was released. It never gets dull to drive a wacky half robot / half SUVish thing with missiles on it’s “head”, blasting through stuff and other cars. I sure hope they will ad full multiplayer support. Single player experiences are just not worth playing nowadays.
