Greenpeace slaps Nintendo, praises Sony

It’s funny how the 3 current-gen console makers race for sales, with Nintendo being the absolute dominator with the Wii, Microsoft coming in second with the Xbox 360 and Sony catching up with the recently price-cut PlayStation 3. Gaming isn’t exactly about keeping the environment safe, but recent study by Greenpeace has shown incredibly intriguing facts about the 3 companies.

Wii ConsoleGreenpeace rates electronics manufacturers on several factors and gives them a score in each category. These are chemicals management, timeline for the precautionary principle (a chemicals policy), PVC phaseout, timeline for BFR phaseout, PVC-free and/or BFR-free models, individual producer responsibility, voluntary takeback, information to individual customers, and amounts recycled.

And while losing in hardware sales, Sony got the best score out of the three with a 7.3 out of 10. Sony has made some serious progress with toxic-free materials and recycling during the year and got a very high score.

Microsoft comes in a distant second with 2.3 out of 10. Apparently, Bill Gates’ company isn’t all that _green_ with the Xbox 360. Remember, frying an egg on your overheated 360 does work, but eating it might result in some serious health problems.

And what score do you think Nintendo got? Zero. Null. Nothing. Nintendo got 0 out of 10. Don’t believe me? Check it out

I don’t really think that Greenpeace got bought by Sony, but it is disturbing on how my Wii seems to be a toxic box filled with chemicals. Oh well, I guess this leaves a lot of room for improvement for Nintendo.
