Desktop Tower Defense Review

Desktop TD is based on one of my all time favorite WC3 tower defenses, Autumn Crossing. There are only a handful of Warcraft 3 tower defenses I have played more. (Wintermaul Wars, Boson’s TD Titan…)

In traditional tower defense games you are required to defend an established path. This can be accomplished by commanding your builder to construct defensive spires along the path. Creeps then run through while your towers pelt them with arrows, cannon balls, magic flames, poison arrows and much more. When playing a defend your path game you need to figure out where the optimal locations for your towers are, the right towers combinations to build, which order to build them and how to upgrade.

desktoptd2.jpg In Desktop TD and Autumn Crossing creeps aren’t required to follow a path. They will find the shortest route from the starting to the ending location. You are free to build a maze with your towers in order to prolong their journey. This added dimension really increases the strategy involved.

The images to the right of this post are other maze examples. Not only do you have access to a complete list of high scores. You also are able to see what other people are building to give you ideas for your maze. It is amazing how many different combinations there are available.

View the maze page here.

At one point I was 5th on the highscore list with a score of 6291. It looks like I have dropped off a bit since then.
