This game has an uncommon characteristic, you get to attack and defend at the same time. It starts out as a basic platform game with a castle on each side of the screen, where you shoot at the enemies that are coming towards your castle. This is where Bowmaster differs from the run-of-the-mill defence game. Launching your assault on the waves of enemy hordes requires judgement, timing, and technique, rather than the basic point and click system that most games use. Adjusting the angle and power of the arrow along with the movement of the enemy and gravity, makes this game a bit of a challenge.

Another twist in the game is your skills all level up individually as you use them. There is even a little bit of diversity in the monster types. There is at least 3 types of land units, flying enemies, spell-casting mages, and siege machines, as far as I’ve found anyway.

With 19 upgrades, ranging from fire arrows to summoning catapults, and 30 assignable upgrade slots, there is a lot to be done in Bowmaster Prelude. All in all, its a smooth running flash game, that provides hours of entertainment. A full series of Bowmaster games is highly anticipated, and could very easily be a close competition to the StarCraft Flash Action series.
